About Inter-Bau Foundation (IBF)

IBCL is one of Nigeria’s pioneering indigenous construction companies. Its over 40 years’ experience gives it first-hand and practical insights into the challenges of the Nigerian construction sector that hinders the emergence of qualified, competent and experienced individuals to meet the country’s infrastructural needs.

Why Inter-Bau Foundation

As Nigeria’s second-largest employer, the construction industry offers significant potential for youth employment. Furthermore, it has also offers diverse opportunities for individuals across different levels of education, skill set and gender. Despite this, Nigeria faces significant employment challenges. According NBS (2024), as at Q3 2023 ,5% of the Nigerian labour population are unemployed and 13.7% of young people were classified as NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training). Furthermore, according to the World Bank, in 2020, 60.3% of Nigerians lived on less than $3.20 per day. Women, particularly those in rural areas and the informal economy, make up a substantial portion of this population.

IBF is committed to tackling these challenges through skills training and gender mainstreaming in the Nigerian construction industry. With the support of our partners, we implement targeted interventions to bridge the skills gap, increase female participation and retention, and advance gender equality in the construction workforce

Objectives of Inter-Bau Foundation

    1. To train and equip a critical mass of Nigerian women and youths with practical construction skills for the construction industry. (SDG 4)

    2. To mitigate the high youth unemployment rate in Nigeria by serving as a pipeline to job opportunities in the construction industry. (SDG 1 and 8)

    3. To provide mentoring and leadership development opportunities for women and youths to build and retain careers in the construction industry. (SDG 4)

    4. To support the engendering of Nigeria’s construction industry by building the capacities of women and girls, by reserving at least 80% space of each training cohort for women (SDG 5 and 10).
